My name is Sonia C. Arellano and I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the Rhetoric, Composition, and The Teaching of English (RCTE) program within the English Department. I love teaching technical writing because it offers a chance to think critically about seemingly mundane, everyday documents and discourse that we encounter. My pedagogy is centered around a reciprocal interaction with students. I am respectful, I openly communicate, and I put forth my focused effort as your teacher, and I expect the same from you as a student. If you are ready to learn and put in the work, I am ready to start the semester with you!
I am originally from Austin, Texas and a first-generation college graduate. I have a BA in English and a BA in Mass Communication (Electronic Media), as well as an MA in Chicano Literature. My current research focuses on textile work that addresses human rights issues. Specifically I study the rhetoric of quilts as memorializing artifacts and historic record at the intersections of death and migration.
I'm including a picture of actual desk workspace (Which is extremely messy right now) and my desktop workspace.
